Nucleus
What is it?
The nucleus is like the brain of the cell. It contains genetic material and helps to control functions such as movement, eating, and reproduction. The nucleus can be found usually in the center of the cell or around that place, most likely not on the edge of the cell for that is too dangerous for the nucleus.
3 parts of the nucleus:
The nuclear envelope: The nuclear envelope is a double layered membrane surrounding the nucleus, similar to the cell membrane, that encloses the contents of the nucleus.
The nucleolus: An organelle within the nucleus that manufactures ribosomes. It looks like a big dark spot in the nucleus through a microscope. During cell division, the nucleolus disappears.
Chromatin/chromosomes: These are packed inside the nucleus of every human cell which is divided into 46 molecules.
My reflection: I already knew about what a nucleus was and knew most of what its function was. But I did not realize that there was a nuclear envelope to protect the nucleus. It is like a cell wall but just for the nucleus. I thought it was interesting that the nucleus will almost never be found in the perimeter of the cell due to the fact that it is dangerous for the nucleus considering it is so vital to the survival of a eukaryotic organism.

I like the way you structured this post. Going into detail about what is in the nucleus was nice too. One thing you could've done is add more about what the components of the nucleus do.
ReplyDeleteThis post is very detailed and well organized. The picture that gives the parts of the nucleus is good too. It's good how you cited your sources as well.
